Mountain Hardwear KivaIn tricky situations, simple solutions often work better. That's the idea behind the Mountain Hardwear Kiva, a unique, five-sided mountaineering shelter. The breathable 50-denier ripstop polyester is coated with polyeurethane for waterproofness, and because polyester doesn't stretch when it's wet, that pitch you pull before the storm will still be taut when the storm passes. The floorless design allows for digging out in snow on winter trips, but for wet weather, it is better to use the optional footprint that will seal the tent nicely. It may be suspended from a tree branch or a strung line, and it can be set up with the Easton pole that is included. For mountaineering or high-weather alpining the single-wall Kiva provides excellent wind and rain-shedding capabilities.
